Preparing for MLK Day: A Day On, Not a Day Off

A day on, not a day off: That’s how we like to begin the New Year. The Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend provides such an occasion. We welcome you to join us in celebration by participating in the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights conference. This daylong educational event will take place Saturday, January 13th, at Whatcom Community College in Bellingham. The conference typically attracts between 300-400 participants and offers a variety of keynote speakers, workshops, discussion forums, film screenings, performances and community networking/outreach opportunities. Clock hours will be made available for teachers who attend.

This year's theme is "Teaching as if Democracy Matters" and features Gregory Michie, a former Chicago public school teacher and author of Holler if You Hear Me and See You When We Get There, which are highly acclaimed books about teaching and social justice. Michie will provide a keynote speech and a workshop geared specifically for educators.

Project 2050 will be presenting as well. If you’re interested in learning more about the conference and what we’ll be doing, please contact us.
